KNIFE SERIES - WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?
Grouping knives into series at MK Knives & Tools allows for easier placement of a particular knife within a time frame. Knives made within a series share common features, such as blade grind or engravings on the sheath, but each knife is essentially a single, one-of-a-kind creation. Every knife has a custom character: its own color scheme, material variations, and unique details. The series only reflects the general philosophy of the tool and expresses the inspiration the creator was experiencing at the time. Any knife from MK’s lineup can be part of each series. These knife series are usually produced for a limited time, ranging from a few months to over a year. It’s worth hunting for your favorite designs while the series is still in production. General series, like “Wood Spirit,” which only releases a few knives per year, are distinct from one-time, closed mini-series, where, for example, six consecutively numbered knives are produced with the same specifications, such as the “Camp Bear” series with the Rambler knife from February 2024.
EXPEDITION SERIES
The Expedition series from MK Knives & Tools is rooted in the idea of moving forward with intention and taking responsibility for the direction you choose. It draws on the experience of navigating real terrain, where decisions are made in changing conditions and every step has consequence.
At the center of the series is the compass — a symbol of orientation, awareness, and the ability to stay on course even when the environment becomes unpredictable. Paired with the motif of a path leading toward mountains and the rising sun, it represents more than a destination. It reflects a process shaped by persistence, observation, and respect for the surroundings.
Rather than focusing on the end point, the Expedition series is built around the journey itself — the continuous movement, the lessons gathered along the way, and the presence required to operate in the field. It is a concept grounded in real use, where the user is not separate from the landscape, but becomes a part of it through experience.
The Expedition series was first introduced in January 2026.
ANGLER SERIES
The ‘Angler’ series from MK Knives & Tools was born out of the maker’s lifelong passion for fishing. It’s really a blend of two worlds: knifemaking, which turned into a full-time career, and fishing — a much-needed escape from daily work. Each knife in the series comes with a custom Kydex sheath decorated with river and hook symbols, signature marks of the ‘Angler’ line. There’s also a unique emblem representing a specific fish species that’s echoed in the knife’s handle design. The first subseries, ‘Perch,’ debuted in June 2025. Will we see more species-inspired designs in the future? Only time will tell.
FEAR THE BEAR SERIES
Launched in April 2025, the Fear The Bear series is about more than just the powerful animal it’s named after. Marked by the image of a bear’s head on the sheath, it’s a reminder that nature deserves our respect.
When we’re out in the wild, we should remember we’re visitors. Forests, mountains, and open plains are home to countless wild creatures. This series is a quiet nod to that truth — encouraging us to be mindful of the land and its rightful inhabitants.
Just like the bear paw print you’ll find on each knife’s sheath, there are tracks and signs all around us in nature. Respect those signs, respect their space — for their safety, and ours.
Knives in this series will feature a variety of steels, blade grinds, and finishes. As with other MK Knives & Tools collections, you can expect a wide range of thoughtful design details that define the brand. Over time, all fixed blade models from the MK lineup will appear within the Fear The Bear series.
PROTOTYPE MARK
The concept of a new knife needs to be put on paper. Every creator has their own design method, and this includes knifemakers. In MK’s creative process, Marcin Kampka transfers his idea, the vision for a new design, to paper, as many knifemakers do. For him, real work on the design starts with a rough sketch, which eventually evolves from a few simple lines into the final shape of the knife on paper. These very lines make up the “PROTOTYPE MARK,” representing the design process. Starting in October 2024, prototypes will be marked with this symbol on the sheaths, alongside the “PROTOTYPE” inscription found on the sheath and the knife itself.
POSTAPO SERIES
The inspiration for this series comes from the post-apocalyptic world—a world rooted in humanity’s deepest fears and a bleak vision of Earth’s future, irrevocably altered by an unspecified cataclysm. This concept has long fascinated and stimulated writers, TV show creators, and filmmakers, and clearly, it’s not just them.
In production since June 2023, the Postapo series is distinguished by pictograms such as the ‘radiation’ symbol, which encourages vigilance and preparedness, and the ‘skull motif,’ which appears sometimes with a gas mask and other times with a soldier’s beret. The skull, symbolizing the fragility of human life, emphasizes the need for skills and reliable gear in a world transformed by dramatic circumstances. Sometimes, survival requires more than just the will to live! In uncertain times, unconventional tools are essential. The blades in the Postapo series are further distinguished by grooved grinds, flat ground tips, and varied double-sided fullers. Contrasting colors, with at least one bright shade (yellow, orange, toxic green), are also characteristic of the series, as one might imagine encountering in a post-apocalyptic world.
FUTUREPUNK SERIES
FuturePunk was a series inspired by a world immersed in technology. It drew from a vision of the future shaped by cybernetic entities, pervasive digitization, and a growing presence of robotics and environmental automation. Pictograms resembling robotic chips and integrated circuits were featured on the sheaths, serving as a defining element of the series.
The series ran from November 2023 until early 2025. Knives in this collection featured a variety of blade grinds—including grooved, flat, and other unique styles—as well as a wide range of handle and Kydex sheath color combinations. While each knife had its own distinctive execution, the series was tied together by the signature markings and visual elements mentioned above.
WOOD SPIRIT SERIES
The first knife in the series appeared in December 2020, and since then, several new versions have been released annually.
The series is inspired by the forces and creations of nature, depicted on the sheaths with engraved pictograms. Elements such as rivers, leaves, owls, deer, trees, and more can still be found on the products in this series. The series is distinguished by the combination of modern design and materials with natural elements evident in the construction. A feature of the knives in this series is the inclusion of specially selected, distinctive stabilized wood in the handle. Natural leather, used in some versions to create the belt loop on the sheath, complements the range of natural materials in the construction. Each knife in the series is made uniquely, with only one version of each design. They showcase both functional and collectible features, serving as elegant talismans and practical tools meant to be used in the field, forest, and other natural environments.
CAMP BEAR SERIES
The Camp Bear series from February 2024 was planned as a one-time production. However, the concept of limited series of knives with enhanced sturdiness (e.g., blades thicker than standard for a given model), highlighted by a symbolic bear paw engraved on the sheath, is intriguing enough to merit future iterations.
The first Camp Bear series, consisting of six identical, numbered knives from 1 to 6, featured the Rambler model with a thicker blade than usual (6 mm instead of 5 mm), grooved grinds, and double-sided fullers. The sheath included a natural leather belt loop and engraved pictograms: a bear paw, a leaf, and a campfire, in line with the forest camping concept. We can certainly expect similar elements in future Camp Bear mini-series.
WIND ROSE SERIES
The Wind Rose series was inspired by human nature and the innate drive to explore both near and distant lands. The Wind Rose, traditionally signifying the cardinal directions and depicted in the pictogram, serves as a call to action. The river engraved on the sheath symbolizes the natural elements that one often encounters during treks, while the tree represents the beauty of nature, which is a reward in itself during these explorations.
The first knife in this series appeared in January 2024, heralding the arrival of subsequent unique pieces. Each knife features a subdued color palette and an inlay of fabric micarta in the handle, reminiscent of a fishing net, connecting to the maritime theme and, of course, the Wind Rose.
CAMP ANT SERIES
Camp Ant, planned and executed as a one-time series in January 2024, became the inspiration for the concept of mini-series knives with different characteristics from the main series produced at that time. Designed as a camping series, it focuses heavily on functional features and has a more subdued, uniform color scheme compared to other series.
Common elements in this and future mini-series in this group include engraved pictograms: a hardworking camp ant, a campfire, and a tent, emphasizing the user’s love for outdoor camping. A leather belt loop on the sheath is an additional element that connects the design to nature. The shortened false edge present in the first realized mini-series Camp Ant (Crowbar knife) is another distinguishing feature of the construction
HONEYCOMB SERIES
The first knife in the Honeycomb series was released in June 2018. At the time, this was one of the favorite themes of the creator of MK Knives & Tools, symbolizing the honeycomb, a creation of some of the most industrious creatures on Earth: bees. The symmetry, accuracy, and precision found in the bees’ world perfectly matched the orderly vision of knifemaking by the brand’s creator. The characteristic feature of the series became the honeycomb symbol, present not only as pictograms on the sheath but also replicated in the handle structure through resin fillings. Nowadays, knives featuring the honeycomb pattern are less commonly produced, making them a true treasure for MK knife collectors.
RECTILINEAR MARK
The Rectilinear Mark, or rather a rectangle containing various geometric figures, characterized the diverse knives produced throughout 2023. Knives with this mark were not part of a closed series but showcased a variety of colors, types and finishes of steel, and types of grinds on the blade in individual editions within a specific timeframe.
It’s simple. Owning a knife with this mark lets you know when it was made.
RHOMBOID MARK
A temporary departure from the rectangle oval to an open rhomboid shape, composed of variously sized rhombuses. This mark began appearing on products in 2021 and served as an indicator for unique knife creations until the end of 2022. It is also a marker indicating the timeframe in which a specific MK knife can be placed. The colors, materials, and types of knives remained diverse as always, contributing to the uniqueness of each piece, which is highly valued by friends, users, and collectors of MK Knives & Tools.
FRACTURED RECTANGLE MARK
A closed rectangle with diagonal lines within its oval, dividing it into parts, was the marker for knives produced from mid-2020 to mid-2021. The sheaths of knives made outside of series such as “Wood Spirit” or “Honeycomb” bore this mark. Apart from this one common element, the products from this period, as always with MK Knives & Tools, are characterized by a great diversity of colors, materials, and details.
