Flin DP – The Drop Point Joins The Flin Family

Following the successful introduction of the Flin SF, MK Knives & Tools is expanding the MK-09 platform with a second blade profile. The new Flin DP brings the versatility of a classic drop point to the growing Flin family while preserving the compact dimensions, lightweight construction, and everyday practicality that define the project.

Built on the same platform as the Flin SF, the new version offers an alternative blade philosophy for users who prefer a stronger point and a more traditional all-around blade profile without sacrificing the compact EDC character of the knife.

Flin DP – The Drop Point Joins The Flin Family

The Flin project was conceived as more than a single knife. From the beginning, the MK-09 platform was designed to support multiple blade geometries while maintaining a common identity, construction philosophy, and carry system. The introduction of the Flin DP represents another step in that evolution and broadens the possibilities ahead.

With the introduction of the Flin DP, the family gains its second member. The sheepsfoot and drop point variants share the same foundation while offering different working characteristics, allowing users to select the blade profile that best matches their preferences and intended use.

Rather than replacing one another, the Flin SF and Flin DP complement each other. The sheepsfoot excels in controlled cutting and precision work, while the drop point offers greater versatility and enhanced piercing capability. Together they create a compact fixed blade family capable of covering an exceptionally broad range of everyday tasks.

Flin DP – A Compact EDC

Like the Flin SF, the Flin DP was designed as a compact fixed blade intended for everyday carry. The knife remains lightweight, discreet, and easy to carry while delivering the performance expected from a full-featured fixed blade.

The overall length remains 170 mm (6.69″), with a blade length of 69.5 mm (2.74″) and a handle length of 100.9 mm (3.97″). The weight of the Flin with G10 handle scales is 81 g (2.86 oz).

The dimensions remain unchanged because the original proportions proved to be an excellent balance between portability, comfort, and cutting performance.

One Platform – Two Different Blade Philosophies

The most significant difference between the Flin SF and the Flin DP is the blade profile.

The sheepsfoot version was developed for users who prioritize precision, controlled cuts, and maximum visibility of the cutting edge. The lowered tip reduces the likelihood of accidental puncturing while making detailed work easier and more predictable.

The drop point version approaches everyday utility from a different perspective. The elevated tip and more traditional geometry offer increased versatility across a wider range of cutting and piercing tasks while retaining excellent control during detailed work.

For many knife users, the drop point remains the benchmark for a true all-around blade profile. The Flin DP was created specifically to meet the expectations of users who naturally gravitate toward this classic blade.

Blade Profile – The Universality Of Drop Point

The drop point profile has earned its reputation through decades of practical use in hunting, outdoor, work, and EDC knives. Its geometry combines a durable tip, an efficient cutting edge, and outstanding overall versatility.

In the Flin DP, the profile integrates naturally with the compact dimensions of the MK-09 platform. The blade offers excellent slicing performance while providing enhanced penetration capability compared to the sheepsfoot variant.

Jimping along the spine continues to provide secure thumb support, while the blade geometry allows confident control during both precise and more demanding cutting tasks. The result is a compact fixed blade capable of handling an exceptionally broad range of everyday applications.

M390 Steel – A Proven Foundation

The Flin DP continues to utilize Böhler M390 powder steel, a premium material known for its excellent wear resistance, corrosion resistance,

and long-lasting edge retention.

The choice of steel remains unchanged because the characteristics of M390 perfectly complement the intended role of the Flin platform as a compact EDC fixed blade. The balance between edge retention, toughness, and corrosion resistance makes it equally suitable for urban and outdoor use.

At the same time, the Flin platform was designed with future development in mind. While M390 forms the foundation of the current release, future members of the Flin family may appear in different steel variants, offering users alternative performance characteristics, aesthetics, and working properties while maintaining the same core design philosophy of the MK-09 platform.

Hidden Tang Construction

The construction of the Flin DP remains identical to the Flin SF and Venn models. The knife utilizes a hidden tang design with handle scales mounted around a broad internal tang that forms the structural core of the handle.

This solution combines excellent strength with a refined visual appearance while allowing the knife to maintain its slim profile. Precision-machined scales are fitted around the tang and secured using stainless steel hardware, ensuring the same level of craftsmanship and assembly quality characteristic of MK Knives & Tools.

Handle Design

The handle geometry remains unchanged from the original Flin concept. A pronounced index finger cutout provides excellent control over the knife, while the integrated guard improves safety by helping prevent the hand from moving forward toward the cutting edge.

Despite its compact dimensions and slim profile of 11.9 mm (0.47″), the handle offers a secure and comfortable grip even for users with larger hands. The ergonomic foundation proven in the Flin SF naturally carries over into the new DP variant.

Handle Materials

Like the Flin SF, the Flin DP has been designed to work with modern handle materials including G10, micarta, and FatCarbon.

The construction allows different material configurations while maintaining the same precision of fit, assembly quality, and visual consistency throughout the growing Flin family.

Hidden Lanyard Or Paracord Pin

The hidden lanyard pin remains an important feature of the Flin platform. Positioned at the rear of the handle, it allows users to attach a bead, lanyard, or paracord extension without disturbing the clean lines of the knife.

The solution provides additional customization possibilities while preserving the minimalist appearance of the design and maintaining the practical everyday carry character of the knife.

Kydex Sheath – Consistency Across The Flin Family

The Flin DP utilizes the same sheath concept introduced with the Flin SF. Rather than creating an entirely separate carry system, the proven Kydex design has been carefully adapted to the new blade profile while maintaining complete visual and functional consistency across the entire Flin family.

The result is a seamless transfer of the sheath concept developed for the Flin SF into the DP version. Retention, dimensions, carry options, aesthetics, and overall user experience remain familiar while preserving the unified identity of the MK-09 platform.

Modern Clip – Without Compromise

Just like the Flin SF, the Flin DP sheath comes equipped with the American-made UltiClip Slim 3.3.

The clip provides reliable attachment to pockets, waist packs, backpacks, organizers, and a wide range of everyday carry setups. Combined with the compact dimensions of the knife and sheath, it creates a highly versatile carry system suitable for a broad range of users and environments.
