New Flin Knife – Redefining Everyday Carry by MK Knives & Tools

Flin – The New Fixed Blade From MK Knives & Tools
The concept of the Flin knife had been developing for several months. After the warm reception of the Venn (MK-08) model, introduced in October 2024 and dedicated to general outdoor use, early considerations began regarding the next project. They focused on the hidden tang construction featured in the Venn, where the tang is enclosed by handle scales. At the same time, there was a growing need to introduce a fixed blade knife designed for everyday use (EDC).
From Idea To Design
Existed Spike (MK-07) model, with its wharncliffe-style blade, already fit well within the EDC category. However, its compact dimensions — 120 mm overall length and 50 mm blade — naturally limited its functionality. This led to the idea of creating a knife with a similar profile, but featuring a more pronounced belly on the cutting edge instead of a straight line, and a full-sized handle that ensures a comfortable and secure grip.
Flin MK-09 – A Compact EDC
This is how the Flin (MK-09) was born – a knife designed with everyday carry in mind. It combines a compact size, a functional blade profile, and the meticulous craftsmanship characteristic of MK Knives & Tools. A practical model that fills the gap between the smallest Spike and the brand’s larger outdoor knives.
Name – where did Flin come from?
The early versions of the knife’s name referred to the shape of the blade and the world of fish, which, in the context of angling, is a passion of the brand’s founder and designer, Marcin Kampka. The working name “Fin” – meaning a fish fin – soon evolved into “Finn”, and finally took its definitive form as FLIN. A combination of the words “fin” and “flint”, the name carries multiple layers of meaning, deeply connected to the world of EDC.
FLIN – Functional Light Integrated Need
Functional, lightweight, and built around real user needs. Nothing unnecessary – only what matters in everyday use. That’s the philosophy behind this model.

Compact Dimensions
The dimensions of the Flin further emphasize its EDC-oriented design. The overall length is 170mm (6.69″), the blade measures 69.5mm (2.74″), and the handle 100.9mm (3.97″). The weight of the Flin with G10 handle scales is 81g (2.86 oz), while the complete set with a Kydex sheath and UltiClip 2.2 clip weighs 123g (4.34 oz).
Flin is an exceptionally compact and lightweight fixed blade, easy to carry in a pants pocket, waist pack, or backpack compartment.
Unique Construction
Just like the Venn model, the Flin features a hidden tang construction with handle scales screwed on a wide tang. The broad section of steel runs almost the entire length of the handle, except for a small portion near the end [tang and blade length: 158mm (6.22″)]. The tang – forming the structural core of the handle – is enclosed by two precisely milled inner-side handle scales made from the selected material. The scales are perfectly fitted, pressed onto the tang, and secured with stainless steel screws, ensuring exceptional strength and precision of assembly.
Blade Profile – Wharncliffe for Everyday Use
The wharncliffe blade is an excellent choice for precise work and controlled cuts. The wharncliffe blade is an ideal choice for precise work and controlled cuts. Its cutting edge with a pronounced belly provides greater contact with the material and enhances the knife’s overall versatility.
In the Flin, a false edge on the upper part of the blade enhances penetration and piercing performance. Additionally, jimping along the spine provides a solid thumb or finger rest, improving stability and control during detailed cutting tasks.
The blade is 3 mm thick, and the applied fine groove grind offers outstanding cutting performance. Future versions will also feature a classic flat grind. Flin is a high-performance cutting knife (slicer) designed to handle everyday tasks with ease.
M390 Steel – a Modern Standard for EDC Knives
The Flin uses Böhler M390, a modern premium-grade powder steel known for its outstanding wear resistance, high hardness, and excellent edge retention. Thanks to its superior corrosion resistance and fine microstructure, M390 performs equally well in daily EDC use and demanding outdoor conditions. Future Flin editions will also appear in other steel variants, offering diverse working characteristics and finish options.

Handle Design
The handle shape maintains consistency with other MK projects. A pronounced index finger cutout – especially important in such a compact design – provides better control over the knife and greater precision when guiding the blade through material. The integrated guard, formed from the same material as the handle, improves work safety by reducing the risk of the hand slipping onto the cutting edge.
Despite its slim profile of 11.9 mm (0.47″), paired with a 3 mm blade thickness, the knife feels comfortable and secure in hand – even for users with larger hands.
Handle Materials
The Flin has been designed to work seamlessly with modern materials such as G10, micarta, and carbon fiber, including exclusive variants from FatCarbon.
The construction allows easy adaptation to different material options without compromising precision or fit.
Hidden Lanyard or Paracord Pin
The Flin also includes a solution for users who enjoy personalizing their knives – for example, by attaching a bead or adding a lanyard/paracord for extra security against dropping or loss during use.
For this purpose, Marcin Kampka designed a hidden pin integrated into the rear section of the handle, preserving the knife’s clean silhouette while maintaining full functionality.
Paracord Section as a Handle Extension
It’s worth noting that, excluding the guard, the grip portion of the handle measures 82.9 mm (3.26″). For a compact knife of this kind, intended for light everyday use, this length is more than sufficient.
However, to accommodate different user preferences, the paracord pin has been placed precisely at the end of the handle, allowing the handle to be extended with a section of cord – either loosely tied or woven, for example, into a diamond knot.
This simple addition enhances not only the grip security but also the overall handling feel. The same approach has long been successfully used in the Spike model.

Kydex Sheath – as Important as the Knife
As with every MK Knives & Tools product, the same level of attention is given to refining the sheath as to the knife itself. Each Kydex (Holstex) sheath is custom-fitted to the specific knife in terms of shape, color, and intended use. The sheaths are also decorated with distinctive pictograms, and the first production run of the Flin features a special prototype mark.
Modern Clip – Without Compromise
The mounting holes in the sheath provide broad possibilities for personalization – whether for adjusting the carry style or adding extra security with paracord. The Flin can be carried freely in its sheath, for example in a pocket or personal organizer.
Each sheath comes equipped with a U.S.-made UltiClip Slim 3.3, a proven solution that ensures secure attachment to the edge of a pocket, inside a backpack compartment, or other gear, preventing unwanted movement during carry.
